Firm Profile
Overview • Design Philosophy • Energy Efficiency • IAQ • Durability • Sustainability
Constructing durable homes not only reduces maintenance costs, but also helps conserve natural resources over time. Many of the elements that impact durability are also interrelated with energy efficiency and indoor air quality.
Material Selection
We select the exterior materials for our homes based on
long term durability and performance. We also make extensive use
of more durable finishes in appropriate interior locations.
Drainage Plane
We provide a carefully detailed drainage plane behind the
primary exterior cladding with integrated head and sill flashings as a
secondary line of defense against liquid water intrusion from the
exterior. This also helps prevent conditions that adversely
affect indoor air quality.
Air Barrier
We employ an interior air barrier to control the
movement of moisture vapor from interior air into wall and roof
assemblies, where it could condense and cause problems. This
also has an impact on energy efficiency and indoor air quality.
Flashing
It may not sound glamorous, but effective flashing is
critical to keeping exterior water outside where it
belongs. We pay attention to critical details, such
as deck-to-wall interfaces where we utilize exposed copper flashing and
special concealed flashing.
Plan Ahead
Even many quality exterior materials will eventually will wear out.
We detail the junctures between these materials to facilitate future
replacement, without unnecessary demolition of adjacent materials.
